2020-10-15 · Roughly speaking, fretting fatigue is associated with small relative displacements (micro-slip regime), whereas fretting wear involves large relative displacements (gross slip regime). Fretting fatigue of bolted joints is outside the scope of this article but it was studied in many papers [ [1], [2], [3] ].

Fretting wear

This article discusses fretting wear in mechanical components and the mechanisms of fretting wear. Fretting wear is surface damage that occurs between two contacting surfaces experiencing cyclic motion (oscillatory tangential displacement) of small amplitude. At the contact areas, lubricant is squeezed out, resulting in metal-to-metal contact. Actually, fretting wear is defined as “a special wear process that occurs at the contact area between two materials under load while subjected to minute relative motion by vibration or some other force”. It can cause severe localized wear or initiate fatigue cracks on the surface or subsurface of the materials.

Fretting wear often involves several complex wear mechanisms taking place at the contact surface, including two-body abrasion, adhesion and/or fretting fatigue wear. In order to understand the fretting wear mechanism and select the best material for fretting wear protection, reliable and quantitative fretting wear evaluation is needed.

The results show that the friction torque was highly influenced by the wear debris acting as the solid lubricant. The TiCN coating reduced the wear volume by 97.6% and 62.3% in oil and artificial seawater, respectively, which was mainly due to an increase in surface hardness. 2020-12-08 5.1 This test method is used to evaluate the property of lubricating greases to protect oscillating bearings from fretting wear. This method, used for specification purposes, differentiates among greases allowing low, medium, and high amounts of fretting wear under the prescribed test conditions. This paper aims to focus on studying the addition of nano-tungsten disulfide (WS2) on fretting wear performance of ultra-high-molecular-weight-polyethylene (UHMWPE).,In this study, the effect of WS2 content on fretting wear performance of UHMWPE was investigated. The fretting wear performance of the UHMWPE and WS2/UHMWPE nanocomposites were evaluated on oscillating reciprocating friction … Fretting Wear of NiTi - Shape-Memory Alloy (B) Marcin Klekotka and Jan Ryszard Dabrowski Department of Materials and Biomedical Engineering, Bialystok University of Technology, Wiejska 45 C, 15-351 Bialystok, Poland {m.klekotka,j.dabrowski}@pb.edu.pl Abstract.
